DEFENSE MECHANISMS FOR THE URBAN BEING II

In Freudian psychoanalytic theory, defense mechanisms are unconscious psychological strategies brought by various entities to cope with anxiety. I created wearable devices that wearers can act upon when faced with certain fears. I chose contemporay accessories (bags, pockets) which blend in the urban environment as well as symbolizing today’s private space, and equipped them with features inspired from defense mechanisms of animals.

The leather bag with wheels is a tool to get you in touch with the ground and to ?nd your orientation, what animals occasionally do as well when scared. When letting go the handles and holding on the to textile part, the bag stretches down to the ground and can be pulled alongside on the wheels, until finding yourself in a place safe enough to lift it up again.

material: leather, elastic yarn, wheels
